Explore faceted, fascinating rocks with your art! Gain expertise in depicting varied Sonoran Desert rocks. You will work with specimens both in the classroom and on the museum grounds. Explore the Earth Sciences Center and the "Life on the Rocks" canyon exhibit with pad and colored pencils in hand. Draw en plein air at the Geologic overlook - Brown Mountain’s stratified rocks date to the time of the dinosaurs. A great class for geologists and artists alike, you’ll learn techniques and creative shortcuts to interpret the colors, planar surfaces, textures and shapes of varied igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks commonly found in our desert.
